Food & Drink
If you’ve decided to holiday in this area then you are in for a gastronomic treat... The local restaurants take pride in offering authentic Umbrian country cooking and Paciano’s numerous festivals are celebrations of the quality food and wine for which the area is renowned.
Enjoy specialities such as truffles, wild boar, porcini mushrooms, chestnuts, wild asparagus, pecorino cheese, freshwater fish from Chiusi and Trasimeno lakes prepared ‘a brustica’ – on embers of reeds grown on the shores of the lake. There are olives, prosciutto hams, Castelluccio lentils, beans of the lake, hand-made pici – the local pasta, walnut and pine nut bread at the restaurants, bars, markets and festas. And don’t forget the vino! Umbria boasts 11 DOC and two DOCG wines, the most prestigious being the Torgiano rosso riserva. Our favourite tipple is another wine made from the grapes grown on the hillsides surrounding the lake; Colli del Trasimeno.
